Northeastern Manitoulin Family Health Team

The Northeastern Manitoulin Family Health Team (NEMFHT) is a primary health care provider located in the pretty town of Little Current on Manitoulin Island. The providers of care include a team of 8 physicians (7 FTE) from the Little Current Medical Associates, as well as the complimenting services of 2 physician assistants, 3 nurse practitioners, 4 registered nurses, 3 registered practical nurses, a pharmacist, a social worker, a lifestyle balance coach, 1 dietitian, and an administration team offering quality primary health care in a collaborative setting.

Things you should know about this rotation:

This rotation will have a combination of clinical experiences including obstetrics, Indigenous health, hospital care, long-term care, minor surgery, house calls, and emergency medicine. The Family Health Team services Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands, which includes Little Current, Aundeck Omni Kaning, Sheguiandah, Whitefish River, and Wikwemikong. In 2018, the Little Current hospital had 10,660 ER visits and 715 inpatient admissions.

Accommodation :

Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) owns a duplex on Meredith Street (beside the LC site of the hospital). The front half of this duplex has been renovated to create three separate, locked sleeping rooms with a common living area, shared laundry facilities and available parking. NOSM learners (but not CCC students) use this facility. Accommodation bookings are completed by NOSM once a booking has been confirmed. Access to the residence is via main door code (Main Entrance ) and bedroom door codes. Students must sign in/sign out at the Admitting Office at the main entrance between 7 am – 3 pm Monday through Friday. Alternate arrangements for check-in can be made, but are not encouraged.
